In addition SL1 has many corporate partnerships with industry and academia. Two of SL1’s key partners are IBM and the USMA at West Point.
SL1's Defense Division’s primary expertise is in Capability Set Management as defined by the Army G3 LandWarNet Policy and its ASA(ALT) component, Army Software Blocking (SWB). Army Software Blocking is the U.S. Army's process for harmonizing and synchronizing all of its "fieldable" systems. The goal of the Army SWB is to develop a true interoperable fielded System of Systems (SoS) through architecture development and interoperability testing. SL1's Chief Operating Officer Steven Burkett has been supporting SWB since its inception in September 2001. Steve supported the Architecture Systems Engineering Office (ASEO) at Fort Monmouth where he helped develop SWB Policy, Procedures, Technical Architectures and Information Assurance (IA) compliance in support of Headquarters Department of the Army (HQDA) Army G6, G3, G8, and ASA(ALT). In addition, SL1 specializes in all levels of interoperability, architecture, mission thread development, test requirements, systems engineering, program development, and architecture support to modeling and simulation with an accent on its value-added analysis.
SL1’s Commercial Products Division provides Vector-based 3D Modeling and Imaging & Measurement software for MRI, CT, PET, microscopy, scientific, and industrial imaging applications. SL1 is bringing this technology and software to leading healthcare and imaging facilities in the Tennessee Valley area. This software is FDA approved for medical imaging and 3D visual applications. In addition the commercial products division also has Advanced Raster to Vector Conversion Software (RV2). The R2V Software combines the power of intelligent automatic vectorizing technology with an easy-to-use, menu-driven, graphical user interface in the Microsoft Windows environment. The software converts scanned maps or images to vector formats for mapping, geographic information systems (GIS), CAD and scientific computing applications. The system is easy to use and can be learned quickly by users with any level of technical background.

New DOCSIS 3.0 Technology Brings Significant Advantages to Customers
(Huntsville, Ala. (February 1, 2010) – Knology residential Internet service in Huntsville is now faster than ever due to a free upgrade to the DOCSIS 3.0 platform. Officially launched today, Knology residential Internet customers will notice a quicker Internet experience for both uploads and downloads. The DOCSIS 3.0 technology also provides significant advances to security and reliability. Huntsville is the first of Knology’s 12 markets to get this exciting new technology.
“This upgrade puts existing and new Knology Internet customers at the highest level of speed, security and performance,” says Tony Palermo, vice president of marketing for Knology, Inc. “Our customers will now see Web pages open in the blink of an eye, and music and movie downloads that are faster than ever. DOCSIS 3.0 brings broadband to the next level. This is the latest example of Knology bringing leading edge technology to Huntsville.”
DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) provides faster speeds for all customers by bonding or combining several channels into a single connection. This will allow up to 50Mbs download /5Mbs upload.
“There are more and more applications where consumers want to upload content, such as sharing music, photos and videos, and now, with this upgrade, their ability to upload has been significantly enhanced,” says Palermo. There are also benefits for gamers. “If you’re a gamer who’s used to gaming at two in the morning because you need more bandwidth, you’ll have all you need any time of the day.”
Knology Internet will deliver top speeds with DOCSIS 3.0:
Residential Knology Internet
- 12 megabit download
- 2 megabit upload
Residential Knology Edge
- 25 megabit download
- 5 megabit upload
In addition to speed increases, DOCSIS 3.0 adds new security benefits such as support for 128 bit Advanced Encryption Security (AES), which provides stronger traffic encryption and stronger security for customer traffic.
Note:
Huntsville businesses with Knology Internet service will also see a free increase in speed. A news release with those details will be sent on February 8.
